A Chorus Of Disapproval

First produced at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, in the round, in 1984 and subsequently presented in the Olivier auditorium of the National Theatre in 1985.

Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious comedy follows the fortunes of the Pendon Amateur Operatic Society - on and offstage - as they struggle to stage ‘The Beggar’s Opera’. The action takes place between the first rehearsal in February and the first performance in May.
New member, Guy Jones, eventually triumphs as the lead, MacHeath, and becomes the centre of attention in more ways than one. His attempts to integrate into the Company lead to many side-splitting misunderstandings - his impact on the society is devastating, but …. the show must go on…
