OLIVER!

28 - 31 May 2008

CONGRESS THEATRE, Eastbourne

The best of British musicals..........Lionel Bart’s Oliver!

Lionel Bart’s fabulous feel-good musical about the adventures of the orphan
boy, Oliver, will bring great family entertainment to the stage of the Congress
Theatre for the May half-term week.
Based on Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, it was the first musical adaptation
of a Dickens novel to become a stage hit. Set around 1850, there’s Fagin the
villain with his training academy for young pickpockets; Nancy who befriends
Oliver and loves the villain Bill Sykes; the Artful Dodger, Fagin’s brightest
pupil; the Sowerberrys in the funeral parlour and the pompous beadle,
Mr Bumble – just some of the characters from a cast of 80.
Songs which have stood the test of time include Food, Glorious Food; Where
is Love?; Consider Yourself; Pick a Pocket or Two; It's a Fine Life; Be Back
Soon; and I Shall Scream.
